April 2nd, 2004
Western Carolina University
Cullowhee, NC
I went to the Western
Carolina University show of the Virgin College Mega Tour on
April 02, and it was awesome. We got there really early, almost three
hours early, but figured we'd just wait around instead of go check out the
campus or whatever. I glanced down to look at the buses and I saw this guy
walking around. I thought it looked like Matt but we were too far away to
tell, and, we later found out, that it was him. First missed Rooney boy
encounter of the night.
The opening acts were good, I had front row seats but we were all told to
stay in
our seats because people behind us couldn't see. During the Joe Firstman
band people, I glanced to my left and saw Louie and Matt. About two
seconds later, Taylor walked out. I was going to go talk to them or at
least try to get a picture but they left again, second missed Rooney boy
encounter.
And then Rooney did come on - I think my friends and I were the only
Rooney fans on the floor. We were sitting in front of Matt, and he was
great - even smiled at us when we were singing. About two songs in to
their set, Robert looked at the crowd and said something along the lines
of "I know they said you guys couldn't stand up here, but I'm sayin you
can! And if the people behind you can't see, then they should stand up
too!" so we all ran to the stage and rocked out or whatever. We somehow
got Robert and Ned's attenion while they were playing (probably from the
spastic head bangin and singing), and Ned even laughed at us. They played
ten songs: Stay Away, Blueside, If It Were Up to Me, I'm a Terrible
Person, The Juice (I believe), Popstars, Daisy Duke, Love Is Not a Game,
That Girl Has Love, I'm shakin.
We left after Rooney because we didn't care to see Michelle Branch and
went out to their tour buses. None of us really expected any of them to be
out there, but when we got down there Matt was. He signed our shirts for
us and took a picture with us, he was really sweet and easy to talk to. I
glanced to my right and realized I was standing next to Taylor, I didn't
even notice him at first. He, too, signed our shirts and took a picture
with us. Ned came out next, smiled when he saw us, and told us that he
remembered us from the crowd and saw us "rockin' out". It was great - he
was really funny. Robert came out next and took a picture with us/signed
our shirts. I think I blinded him with my camera but that's okay. Louie
never came out - we asked Robert if he would and Robert said yeah..fifteen
minutes later we asked
Matt and Matt said he didn't even know where Louie was. So we never met
Louie but we had a blast anyways!
